As of 8:15 p.m., Roberts had a wide margin over his Republican challenger, Corey Marshall, according to unofficial results posted by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. With about 60,000 votes counted, Roberts has received 36,265, or about 60%, while Marshall has received 23,766, or about 40%.

Colorado Senate District 8 covers the northwest corner of the state and includes Clear Creek, Eagle, Summit, Grand, Gilpin, Jackson, Moffat, Routt, Garfield and Rio Blanco counties.

Roberts — a Frisco resident who grew up in Routt County and worked as a deputy district attorney before serving two terms in the state House of Representatives — will enter his second term in the state senate.

Marshall is a fourth-generation Coloradan who owns Rudolph Ranch in Gilpin County and also has experience as a business executive at the Ford Motor Company and Molson Coors.

During the campaign, both Roberts and Marshall focused on affordability as a top issue — though the two often diverged on how to address it. The candidates also disagreed, often along party lines, about how the Colorado legislature should respond to policies from President Donald Trump’s administration, address the state budget deficit and how to reform tax policies.
