Colorado has a new minimum wage for 2026 — here’s what to know

Colorado is one of 19 states set to raise its hourly minimum in 2026, with some municipalities reaching more than twice the federal minimum.
Beginning Jan. 1, the statewide minimum wage will be $15.16 an hour, an increase of 35 cents from 2025’s minimum of $14.81. Colorado’s minimum wage is updated annually based on the consumer price index, which measures fluctuations in the price of essentials like food, gas and housing costs.
The state’s new minimum wage is more than twice the federal minimum wage, making it one of 18 states with a minimum of $15 or greater.
Workers whose wages include tips have a different minimum salary, which in Colorado will increase to $12.14 from $11.79. The lower minimum is based on the state’s $15.16 hourly minimum wage with the federal standard $3.02 tip credit.
Cities like Denver, Boulder and Edgewater have higher minimums, since state law allows local governments to set a higher minimum wage. Denver’s minimum wage for 2026 is set the highest in the state at $19.29 while Edgewater’s is set at $18.17 — more than Washington State’s minimum of $17.13, the highest in the country. Both the city of Boulder and Boulder County will switch to a $16.82 minimum on Jan. 1, after the county’s commissioners replaced a previous plan that would have raised rates to $25 by 2030.
For now, the federal minimum wage will remain at $7.25 in 2026, unchanged since it was set in 2009.
