Craig police officers used a TAZER on a local woman twice Thursday after they say she shoplifted from a local retailer and resisted arrest.

Tracie Lou Giroux, 44, of Craig, was arrested at Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply, 2355 W. Victory Way, after employees there said she stole a coat and a toy.

Craig Police Department spokesman Lt. John Forgay said Giroux was combative and uncooperative when officers tried to apprehend her.

Giroux punched and kicked officers, Forgay said. One officer was kicked in the face, he said.

Giroux’s booking sheet at the Moffat County jail lists her as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 130 pounds, but it took three officers to apprehend her, Forgay said.

“She kind of went into a rage,” Forgay said.

Officers used a TAZER on Giroux once to get her into a squad car and another time to get her out of the car, Forgay said.

When Giroux was in the car, she tried to kick out the windows, Forgay said.

Officers took Giroux to The Memorial Hospital before taking her to Moffat County Jail.

Jail administrator Lt. Dean Herndon said Giroux was cooperative when she arrived at the jail.

“Generally, once they get here and the arresting agency is gone, they calm down a little bit,” Herndon said.

Giroux is being held in the jail on $25,000 bail.

She is charged with shoplifting, second-degree assault, criminal attempt and resisting arrest.
