Charges have been filed against three Craig residents who allegedly stole a vehicle last week and crashed it a short time afterward.

Jarod Bays, 25, Alicia Colvin, 31, and Joseph A. Galvan, 20, were arrested Aug. 9.

Authorities allege the three suspects stole a 2001 Lexus from the driveway of Craig residents Joel and Janet Sheridan, and later crashed the vehicle at the corner of Barclay and 10th streets.

Formal charges were filed Monday against the supects in Moffat County Court, according to court records.

Bays, who allegedly drove the stolen vehicle, is charged with criminal mischief of $20,000 or more, a Class 3 felony; motor vehicle theft, a Class 4 felony; trespass of an auto with intent to commit, a Class 5 felony; and driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors.

Colvin and Galvan are charged with motor vehicle theft and trespass of an auto with intent to commit.

Colvin was released from Moffat County Jail on $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at 2 p.m. Aug. 23 before Judge Sandra Gardner for a review hearing in county court.

She does not have an attorney, according to records.

Galvan remains in custody and appeared in court Tuesday; another appearance has not been scheduled.

He does not have an attorney, according to records.

Bays remains in custody and is slated to appear before Gardner at 11 a.m. Aug. 23.

He is being represented by a public defender.

Jon Pfeifer, chief deputy district attorney for the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, is prosecuting all three cases.

The Sheridans were unaware charges had been filed until Wednesday night.

“We feel about the same as we did when it happened,” Joel Sheridan said upon learning of the criminal charges.

“People live in a small community like this for a reason, but the reality is things like this happen.”
