A statewide drone show series will come to Northwest Colorado and the Western Slope for multiple occasions in the next year.
The show commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence and the 150th anniversary of statehood for Colorado, the Centennial State. The show is a partnership between the America 250-Colorado 150 Commission, Colorado Tourism Office and Visit Denver, and is built on two major programs working in concert through the end of 2026.
In a news release for the project, Dick Monfort, America 250-Colorado 150 Commissioner and CEO of the Colorado Rockies baseball team, noted that the show is a family-friendly way to celebrate the significant national and state anniversaries and to connect Colorado communities.
“They’ll inspire pride in Colorado and the United States as we mark these milestones while offering a modern, jaw-dropping spectacle,” Monfort said in the release.
Stories in the Sky is a statewide series that kicked off Sept. 27 at the University of Colorado football game in Boulder and will travel across the state, from the Eastern Plains to the Western Slope.
With production by Brightflight Drone Shows, hundreds of synchronized drones provide elaborate animations in the skies above.
The show will be part of the Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival in February, as well as August’s Moffat County Fair in Craig.
Additional Western Slope events that will feature the drone show are the Ouray Ice Festival in January; Grand Junction’s Southwest Arbor Fest in April; Vail’s GoPro Mountain Games and Glenwood Springs’ Strawberry Days, both in June; Breckenridge’s Independence Day celebration in July; August’s Palisade Peach Festival; and the Telluride Film Festival in September, among other stops across the state.
Leading up to the tour in 2026, the Mile High Holidays Nightly Drone Spectacular, hosted by Visit Denver, will feature a 40-night extravaganza in the Denver skies nightly starting Nov. 21 running through the end of the calendar year. An encore will take place during the 2026 holiday season.
Stories in the Sky features sponsorship by Chevron, Tallgrass and UCHealth. In the news release for the tour, Tallgrass CEO Gary Watkins said he expects the drone show will “bring our communities closer, celebrating the values we share as Coloradans.”
“As a Colorado native and lifelong resident, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our state’s 150th birthday,” Watkins added.
The drone show schedule and all statewide events by the America 250-Colorado 150 Commission, are available at colorado.com/am250-co150-events.
