Sports briefs: Physicals for athletes offered Monday
There will be a chance for high school and middle school athletes to undergo physicals necessary to compete in the fall sports season at 5 p.m. Monday at Kinder Family Clinic, 595 Russell St.
The cost is $15 per athlete, and forms are available at Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave., or Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane.
Any athlete enrolled in fall sports must have a physical to participate.
Community to honor retired coach
Former Moffat County High School basketball players, fellow coaches, and community members are invited to honor former coach Craig Mortensen today.
There will be a celebration of Mortensen’s 30-plus years as head coach of the boys and girls basketball teams at 5 p.m. at Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave.
The event, which is open to the public, will include refreshments and an alumni pick-up basketball game.
Mortensen coached the MCHS boys team from 1976 to 1994, and the girls team from 1995 to 2010.
He retired in April after recording more than 500 career wins.

Youth football coaches meeting is Monday
There will be a mandatory meeting for Craig Parks and Recreation football coaches at 5 p.m. Monday at Craig City Hall, 300 E. Fourth St.
The meeting will be for coaches of third- and fourth-grade teams and fifth- and sixth-grade teams.
Schedules will be handed out, and rules will be reviewed.

Cage fight training meeting is Aug. 16
There will be a informational meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 for fighters interested in cage fighting.
The meeting will be at Holistic Health & Fitness, 420 Breeze St., and will cover how to get fight training for this fall’s Rampage in the Cage event.
Attendees must be at least 18 and in good physical condition.

Bowling League to host Aug. 31 meeting
The Ladies Nite Out Bowling League will have an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 at Thunder Rolls Bowling Center, 990 Industrial Ave.
Any women bowlers interested in joining a league are encouraged to attend the meeting.
