Sports briefs for August 6, 2011: Craig Sea Sharks swim meet continues today

The Colorado seasonal state swim meet, hosted by the Craig Sea Sharks, continues today and Sunday at the Craig Swimming Complex, 605 Washington St.

The meet begins at 8 a.m. both days.

The Sea Sharks have 12 swimmers competing, with 369 swimmers from around the state also participating.

This weekend's meet is the last this season for the Sea Sharks.

General admission is free both days.

The lane pool at the swimming complex will be closed to the general public, but the wave pool will stay open.

There will be a 1 to 4 p.m. session and 5 to 8 p.m. session today and a 1 to 4 p.m. session Sunday.

The wave pool accommodates 200 people and the pool will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

MCHS volleyball dates next week

The Moffat County High School volleyball coaches will be conducting a preseason conditioning camp Monday through Thursday this week.

The camp will run from 6 to 8 p.m. each day.

All players who are interested in being part of the varsity, junior varsity or C-team are encouraged to attend.

On Thursday, the MCHS volleyball coaches will host a parents and players' meeting for any girls who plan to go out for any of the three teams.

The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the MCHS cafeteria.

Official team practices and tryouts begin Aug. 15.

Legion, Lions Club to host golf tournament

The American Legion Post 62 and Craig Lions Club golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 13 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

The tournament begins at 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $15 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, green fees and a golf cart. A Ribeye steak dinner is also available for $15 per person, and a raffle will take place during the tournament.

The tournament is limited to the first 120 paid entries.

The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Monday, or when the tournament is full.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams.

Races slated for Sunday at Thunder Ridge

The third motocross races of the year will take place Sunday at Thunder Ridge Motor Sports Park, located south of Craig.

Registration is from 7 to 8 a.m. and races will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $25 per class and races are open to anyone.

General admission is $10 per person.

Stoffle Racing will be hosting a benefit lunch for injured rider Steven Sharp.

The last race of the season will be Sept. 17.

Racers who wish to hone their skills on non-race days may purchase a track membership for $100 per rider or $150 for a family at Craig Powersports, Valley Performance and Bank of Colorado.
