Reader of the Week: Nelson enjoys all Craig has to offer

Rick Nelson was always told being a grandfather was going to be great, but it has exceeded his expectations.

“It’s the best,” Nelson said.

Nelson has lived in Craig since 1980 and opened Ram Designs in 1997.

“I wanted to always do this kind of job,” he said of the database and web development company. “The Internet opened up the opportunity for this field.”

Nelson said he enjoys working with all of his employees because they all have a close relationship and said they know virtually everything about him.

“They notice when I’m not here,” he said. “When I’m gone, they can probably relax and put their feet up on the desk for a day,” he joked.

Nelson, who has three children, said he enjoys Craig because it allows him to do what he loves.

“I enjoy golfing, fishing and hunting,” he said.

While Nelson enjoys Craig and plans to stay here in the future, he said he misses some of the things an urban environment offers.

“I like to play chess, but the closet tournaments are 200 miles away,” he said.

Nelson’s interest in the outdoors and his work made him describe himself as “aggressive.”

“It’s my nat-ure I guess,” he said. “I like competing, I like winning, and I am pretty outspoken.”

Nelson is un-sure what the future holds for him, but he knows he wants to stay in Craig for the time being.

“Eventually I want to retire,” he said. “I am just unsure when.”
