Park Service considers camping fee increase at Dinosaur National Monument
Campers at Dinosaur National Monument may find that it costs more to pitch a tent next year.
The National Park Service is seeking public input on a proposed fee increase for camping at the monument. If enacted, it would be the site’s first camping fee increase in nearly a decade.
According to NPS, the agency regularly conducts comparability studies with other area private and public campgrounds to ensure it is not “unfairly competing with nearby private businesses or putting them at a disadvantage.”
While rates at many other local campgrounds have risen sharply in recent years, the fees at Dinosaur National Monument have remained consistent since 2016.
The monument’s current camping fees range from $6 to $40 during peak season. The new proposal would impact six of the monument’s seven campgrounds, raising rates across both high and off-seasons.
Campgrounds in Deerlodge Park, Echo Park, and Gates of Lodore would see a high-season rate increase from $10 to $14 and an off-season rate increase of $6 to $12. Echo Park Group site would increase from $15 to $25 during the high-season, while the off-season rate would remain at $15.
Green River’s high-season rate would increase from $18 to $24, with the campground remaining closed in the off-season.
Split Mountain Group Site’s high-season rate would remain at $40, while its off-season rate would increase from $6 to $12. Rates for Rainbow Park would increase from $6 to $12 for both seasons.
The Senior/Access Passes rates would also increase under the proposed plan.
Acting Monument Superintendent Jason Griswold said that while affordable access to the monument is taken “very seriously,” the increase in rates would help with facility maintenance, improved visitor services and “providing visitors with the best possible experience.”
The National Park Service is accepting public comments on the proposed changes until June 1.
Feedback will be reviewed to help determine the final fee adjustments and implementation. Comments can be submitted on the monument’s website at parkplanning.nps.gov/proposed2025campingfees or via email to DINO_Fees@nps.gov with “proposed camping fees” in the subject line.
If approved, the proposed fee changes would take effect Jan. 1.
