No suspects in stolen truck crash

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

An investigation into a reported auto theft and accident is ongoing, Craig Police Department officials said.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Aug. 12, a green Chevy truck crashed into the side of Al Cashion’s house at Sandrock Drive and Barclay Street.

Cashion thought it was an intruder trying to enter his house and saw the driver of the vehicle climb over his gate and run away.

The truck was identified as belonging to Ricky Kawcak, who lives on Steele Street. Kawcak had not realized his truck had been stolen, though he remembered hearing screeching tires.

Police officials said the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Sandrock Drive and attempted to turn north onto Barclay.

The truck crashed through the Cashion’s yard, knocking over a small tree, birdbath, and tomato plants before hitting the wall of the attached garage.

Cashion estimated the damage to be around $5,000.

Commander Jerry Delong, of the Police Department, said the investigation is ongoing but no suspects have been identified in the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is to call 826-2360.
