Church planning fish fry

St. Michael Catholic Church, 678 School St., will host a fish fry from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 7.

The menu consists of beer-battered fried fish or oven-baked fish in a lemon pepper seasoning, French fries, homemade hushpuppies, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese and warm bread pudding with maple syrup.



Donations are accepted. Organizers suggest $4 for children 5 to 10 years old and $9 for adults. Children younger than 5 eat for free.

Takeout is also available by calling 824-5330 ahead of time.



April job fair planned for Craig businesses

Local business owners searching for new employees are encouraged to attend a job fair next month at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.

The job fair is from 7 to 9 p.m. April 20. For information, call Kelly at the Colorado Workforce Center at 824-3246.

Teen dance fundraiser scheduled for Friday

Teenagers looking to burst onto the Craig social scene have the opportunity Friday night as the Communities Overcoming Methamphetamine Abuse group puts on a teen dance at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. US Highway 40.

The dance is open to fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders with school identification.

The cost is $3 a person or $5 a couple. Pepsi has donated 10 cases of soda for the event.

Organizers with the COMA fundraising committee said that if this dance is successful, they hope to hold more dances throughout the summer.

Postal inspectors warn about bogus lottery

A lottery scam from Spain has U.S. postal inspectors warning citizens to be wary of lottery solicitations through the mail.

A fraudulent lottery scam originating in Malaga, Spain, has sent up to 18,000 letters a day to addressees, including many in the United States. Durango residents have been targeted recently, which has postal inspectors warning residents of Colorado and Wyoming about the scam.

Inspectors warn that most foreign lottery solicitations are fraudulent and that it is hard to verify whether the lottery exists.

In the Malaga, Spain, lottery, U.S. postal inspectors and Spanish Police have made more than 300 arrests, and victims are advised to call Denver postal inspectors at (303) 313-5320.

Co-ed, mens softball fees due April 28

Softball players interested in playing for the co-ed or mens league must pay county fees by 4 p.m. April 28. The $150 team fee may be dropped off at Freight Damaged Furniture, 538 Pershing St. Call 824-4864.
