The American Legion is hosting the first chili supper Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way. The cost is $3.50 a person, and children younger than 12 are half price. Supper includes all-you-can-eat chili, corn bread, desserts and a drink. Everyone is invited. This fund-raiser will be for the American Legion general fund. For more information call 824-3085 after 5 p.m.

Bowling League meeting to discuss merging
The Northwest Men’s League meeting at Craig Lanes, 420 Breeze St., on Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. After that meeting there will be a Craig Men’s Bowling Association meeting. All bowlers, men and women, are welcome and if you are interested in joining a league you are encouraged to attend. This meeting will discuss the merging of the American Bowling Congress and the Women’s International Bowling Congress into one national United States Bowling Congress. Parks and Rec hosting Punt, Pass and Kick
The Craig Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Punt, Pass and Kick competition Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. at Woodbury Field. This is a free competition for boys and girls ages 8 through 15. Qualifiers will be eligible for regional and national competitions. Registrations will be take at the field on the day of the event. Call 826-2004.
Boys and Girls Club
selling Rockies tickets
The Boys and Girls Club of Craig is pleased to announce that it is participating in the Commissioner’s Initiative for Kids and has been provided with nearly 500 Colorado Rockies tickets from Major League Baseball at a cost of $1 each. Seats are in the upper deck, right field.
Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Craig and CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Tickets are available at the Craig Chamber of Commerce for the following games:

n Rockies vs. Montreal Expos, Friday and Saturday, 7:05 p.m.

Barrel Racing Series Finals set for today
Barrel Racing Series Finals will be held today in Hayden at Brooks Arena, 39565 Routt County Road 37.
Books for the races and arena open at 5 p.m.; races will start at 6:30 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow the races at about 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to any interested spectators.
Tammy Fornes, of Craig, has clinched the first division buckle. Buckles in the second and third division will be decided at the final race. Awards will be given to first, second and third place in each division. For more information, call Kay Brooks at 276-2022.

Carson & Barnes Circus performs in Craig
The Carson & Barnes Circus, the biggest big-top five-ring circus, is coming to Craig today with shows at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Moffat County Fairgrounds. This event is sponsored by the Craig Lions Club.
Elephants and 100 exotic and domestic animals will perform. Clowns, acrobats, jugglers, high-wire and trapeze artists, wild animal trainers and costumed performers will be featured.
Spectators can come on the morning of the circus and visit a zoo with lions, tigers, zebras, hippopotami and much more. At 9 a.m. the crew erects the biggest big top on earth.
Advance tickets are available at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, Jackson’s Office Supply and Craig, and Meeker and Hayden branches of the First National Bank of the Rockies. Adult tickets are $10 in advance or $14 at the gate. Children’s tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. Advance tickets can be upgraded to box seats, center-ring reserved or preferred seating for an additional charge. Call Chris at 824-7031.



Discuss Hayden growth at Aug. 26 meeting
Should Hayden grow to more than 15,000 residents? Would you like your voice heard in how Hayden and West Routt County grows? The town of Hayden is calling all residents to get involved in the Hayden Comprehensive Plan.
“Defining Hayden’s Future Alternatives” will be Aug. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hayden Town Hall. The forum is the third in a series of strategic planning sessions hosted by Winston Associates Inc. of Boulder to validate the work on the Hayden Comprehensive Plan.
Three alternative growth scenarios for Hayden and its surrounding area will be displayed and discussed at the forum.

The Comprehensive Plan update is part of a multi-phase community planning and visioning project funded by a grant from the Gates Family Foundation which has included a Community Video “Hayden’s Where My Heart Is” and the use of CommunityViz software for developing and visualizing the plan.

Rotary looking for a few people to travel to India
January will be wintertime in the Rocky Mountain region; however, it will be warm and sunny in India. Trade a month of winter for a month of summer. The Rotary Club of Craig invites young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 to apply for an exciting and educational opportunity as a participant in the Rotary Group Study Exchange program.
The program is a cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women. The exchange strives to improve international understanding by enabling people from different countries to learn from each other on a personal level.
The Group Study Exchange program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women. The program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults to better prepare them to address the needs of their communities in an ever-increasing global workplace. In addition, the exchange strives to improve international understanding by enabling people from different countries to learn from each other on a personal level.
Team members will spend a month visiting the host country and living with local Rotary families.
The foundation pays for most of the team member’s expenses, including transportation and meals, with team members expected to pay only for their personal expenses. Applications are due Sept. 3, and interviews will be Sept. 11 in Laramie.

Craig Daily Press seeks Editorial Board members
The Craig Daily Press is accepting nominations for community representatives on its Editorial Board. The community representatives will serve a four-month term beginning Sept. 1.
The Editorial Board includes two community representatives and three members of the newspaper staff. The board formulates the Our View opinions on the opinion page of the paper.
Readers interested in serving on the Editorial Board should send a letter of 500 words or less expressing their interest in the board to Smith at asmith@craigdailypress.com, or at 466 Yampa Ave., Craig CO 81625.
