New wildfire ignites in Yellow Jacket area near Meeker; firefighters on scene

Firefighters are responding to a newly reported blaze in the Yellow Jacket area of the White River National Forest, approximately 20 miles northeast of Meeker, according to a statement released by the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office just after 12:45 p.m. on Friday.

According to a statement from the U.S. Forest Service, the fire has covered five acres. Crews and aerial resources, as well as resources from the Lee Fire, are working to contain the blaze.



Residents are advised to monitor official updates and take necessary precautions.
