Neva M. Herman
Neva M. (Yackle) Herman, 83, of Flagler and formerly of Cope, passed away Nov. 14, 2006, at the Tender Care Village in Flagler.
Neva was born Oct. 16, 1923, the third of five children, to Frank and Augusta (Jesse) Yackle in Hillsdale, Kan. She spent her childhood in eastern Kansas and graduated from Spring Hill High School, Spring Hill, Kan., in 1941.
As a child growing up, the family often spent time visiting relatives in eastern Colorado. It was at this time that Neva met her future husband, Martin Herman, in 1941. They were married in Oswego, Kan. on Aug. 29, 1944. They made their home southwest of Cope, residing there throughout their entire married life of 59 years. To this union, three children were born: Melvin Floyd on April 2, 1946, Linda Pauline on Aug. 21, 1949, and Janet Elaine on May 16, 1951. Neva spent most of her time helping Martin on the farm and caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, playing the piano, painting and playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1994, Martin and Neva celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with many friends and family. That was one of the biggest highlights of their married life. She was a fun and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In March of 2004, Neva moved to Tender Care Village in Flagler where she received loving care until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Augusta, and two sisters, Lena and Helen, as well as her husband, Martin, of 59 years and two months.
She leaves to mourn her passing: son, Melvin Herman and wife, Carole, of Cope; daughters, Linda Madsen and husband, Jim, of Craig, and Elaine Brown and husband, Laureston, of Cope; grandchildren, Jim Madsen Jr. and wife, Kellie, of Grand Junction, Marty Herman and wife, Linette, of Evanston, Wyo., Sharon (Herman) and Rory Parrish of Greeley, Aaron Brown and wife, Saralynn, of Joes, Stephanie (Brown) Lee and husband, Joel, of Dolores, Angela (Herman) Cordell and husband, Craig, of Flagler, Justin Herman and wife, Trisha, of Yuma, and Ashlee Brown of Cope; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline and husband, Hank, Broockerd of Spring Hill, Kan.; brother, Roy Yackle of Hillsdale, Kan.; brothers-in-law, Albert Herman of Oswego, Kan., and Kit Herman of Flagler; sister-in-law, Nina (Herman) Roe of Denver; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
