National Night Out is tonight

The annual Wendy’s National Night Out takes place tonight with information intended to provide safety tips for families, especially children.

The event will be held in the Wendy’s parking lot and starts at 5 p.m. and goes to 7 p.m.

Some of the things planned are child identification kits, information about bike regulations, gun safety law information, information about the adult City Policy Academy and information about the city’s radar system.

The National Night Out is a national program that takes place the first Tuesday in August. This will be the third year it has taken place in Craig.

Representatives from the Craig Police Department, Craig Fire/Rescue, Com-munities Overcoming Meth Abuse and the Sheriff’s Office will be present and discuss issues with parents and children.

The Boys and Girls Club of Craig also will have cup-stacking demonstrations, Baggo and Kinex to provide the children with entertainment.

Jonathan Godes, the director for the Boys and Girls Club, said he thinks the event is a great idea.

“The more the public can realize the opportunities, the stronger the community becomes,” he said.

Annette Gianinetti, a member of the executive committee for COMA, said the Night Out will provide COMA with a chance to inform the public about its goals.

Another positive thing about the event, Gianinetti said, is it will give children a chance to talk with local law enforcement officials and learn about what they do.
