With a slew of seniors being honored, Saturday afternoon basketball games in Craig were nearly as much about ceremony as they were about athletics.
Moffat County Senior Night included salutes to nine hoopsters, two team managers and three cheerleaders amid the Bulldogs’ matches with Coal Ridge.
For the girls team, coaches paid tribute to players Mena Tucker, Ariana Buchanan, Caitlyn Adams and Josefina Kuberry, as well as manager Kiki Bohrer.
For the boys program, seniors included athletes Trayson Carlson, Junior Welch, Jayden Evenson, Gavin Barrett and Landyn Bollman, plus manager Corey Kitchen.
For the spirit squad, upperclassmen Alexus Noland, Jojo Fraipont and Fantasia Jowell were honored.
The girls game saw MCHS lead the entire time in a 57-47 victory over the Titans that also resulted in strong statistics for its eldest players as Adams hit a personal best in scoring with 26 points and Tucker did the same in rebounds with 14.
MoCo girls moved to 13-9, winning four of their last five games that included home W’s against Battle Mountain (49-35) and Steamboat Springs (44-27), a 71-18 loss in Delta and a 49-47 overtime win in Rifle.
For Bulldog boys, a slow first quarter didn’t help much in a 63-52 loss, though Welch and Evenson showed strong outside shooting, combining for five three-pointers with 13 points for Welch and 12 for Evenson.
MCHS boys stand at 3-19, including close losses to Battle Mountain (60-57), Steamboat (54-50) and Rifle (59-55) as well as a rougher loss to Delta, 70-43.
MCHS teams will play their final regular season games at home this Friday against Aspen. Varsity games tip off at 5:30 p.m.
