Moffat County Health issues public safety notice
The Moffat County Public Health Department is issuing this public safety notice regarding a potential safety concern involving certain smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that may have been distributed through a county public health program or purchased independently by residents.
Moffat County has been notified that a specific product model may fail to alarm in the presence of smoke and/or carbon monoxide, which could expose occupants to unsafe conditions. The county is sharing this information out of an abundance of caution to help ensure the safety of residents.

- Type: Household CO& Smoke Alarm- Battery Powered- Dual Purpose Dual-sensor
This notice applies only to specific models and does not affect all smoke or carbon monoxide detectors.
Nature of the potential safety issue
According to information provided by the retailer and manufacturer, affected units may fail to alarm, potentially exposing occupants to smoke or carbon monoxide without warning.
What residents should do immediately
Residents who believe they may have this product should:
- Stop using the detector immediately.
- Check the detector model to confirm whether it matches the description above.
- Ensure another working smoke and carbon monoxide detector is installed in the home while addressing this issue.
Instructions provided by Amazon (if purchased through Amazon)
Amazon has issued the following instructions for customers who purchased the affected product through its platform:
- Using a permanent marker, write “DO NOT USE” in large, clear letters across the exterior of the detector.
- Take a single photo showing the entire product with the “DO NOT USE” marking clearly visible.
- Visit Amazon’s Recalls and Product Safety Alerts page:
- Locate the impacted order and select “verify destruction for refund.”
- Upload the photo and submit it for verification.
- Retain the marked (defaced) product until Amazon confirms verification.
- Once verified, dispose of the product in accordance with local and state waste or recycling laws.
If multiple units were purchased, Amazon advises that each unit must be individually marked and photographed.
If the product was provided to another person, Amazon recommends notifying the recipient immediately and sharing this safety information.

- The County did not manufacture these smoke or carbon monoxide detectors.
- Technical questions regarding defects, replacements, refunds, or disposal should be directed to Amazon or the manufacturer, as applicable.
