Moffat County High School’s fall sports season is underway this week, as Bulldog teams get going for the 2025-26 school year.
Back in the swing
The MCHS boys golf program began its new schedule last week, with players getting three tournaments under their belts right away.
The Skier Invitational at Aspen Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 11 saw Bulldog boys varsity shoot a 283 as a group, with senior Blake Peed leading scores with a 92 to tie for 43rd of 73 on the links. Sophomore Braxton Stewart notched a 94 and senior Kolten Vasquez at 97.
Sophomore Josiah Lasiloo took 124 and junior Carter Sterle 125.
The Dogs placed 10th in team rankings the following day at Basalt’s Longhorn Classic at River Valley Ranch, with all of them cutting their scores: Peed shot an 85, Stewart an 89, Vasquez 91, Lasiloo 115 and Sterle 124.
Vasquez, a two-time state qualifier, found his groove during Thursday’s Panther Invite at Devil’s Thumb in Delta, bringing it down to 89, while Stewart shot 95, Peed 101, sophomore Carson Haskins 119 and senior Trevor Odell 130.
MHCS golf will tee off again this week in Montrose at the Red Hawk Tournament hosted by Cobble Creek.
Ready for some football?
MCHS will host the first home sporting events of the fall this week with the football home opener Friday night at the Bulldog Proving Grounds, 900 Finley Lane.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. as the Dogs face off against the Commanders of Denver’s John F. Kennedy High School.
A Fifth Quarter event for students will take place after the game.
The MCHS field will also serve as host for the Craig Middle School football program, with games against Steamboat Springs scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday.

More to come
While other MoCo sports teams won’t have any home events until September, all Bulldog squads will be in action in the coming week.
• MCHS boys soccer hits the road to take on Eagle Valley Thursday afternoon to kick off their season, with the Dogs’ first home game on home turf Sept. 12 against Middle Park.
• Bulldog volleyball will take on back-to-back games Friday afternoon against Dove Creek and Plateau Valley as part of Rangely’s early season tournament across two days. The team will be on a home floor both Sept. 2 and 4 against Steamboat and North Fork, respectively.
• In its sophomore season, Bulldog softball will start the schedule with Saturday’s Lyons Round Robin. Their first home game is planned for Sept. 13 with a doubleheader against Middle Park.
• The Moffat County cross country team will be off and running Saturday morning as part of the Central Warrior Invite at Grand Junction’s Los Colonias Waterfront Park. Distance runners will be solely on the road until their Sept. 27 home event.
