There’s been a lot of pink at Moffat County High School sporting events lately.

MCHS teams have been commemorating the month of October with pink apparel as part of their uniforms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The traditional color and imagery for the cause was on display during the MCHS softball team’s Oct. 7 doubleheader. Besides sweeping the Middle Park Panthers 20-4 and 22-9, players showed their support with pink belts and socks, as well as celebrating upperclassmen Teryn Carter, Vanessa Herrera and Camilla Nuñez-Verdugo as part of Senior Night.

MCHS volleyball likewise had plentiful pink on display during an Oct. 9 match against Roaring Fork. Players wore pink warmup gear, hair ribbons and glitter with themed signs on the walls of the gym — as well as knocking around a pink ball — before facing the Rama across four sets in a tight loss.

The Bulldog football program likewise were clad in the color in their return to the home gridiron Friday, an evening that also doubled as Dads Night.

Though the team took their lumps against perennial playoff contender Basalt in a 47-6 defeat, pink socks, gloves and compression sleeves exemplified the idea of fighting the good fight, as a young roster held the Longhorns scoreless in the second half.

With the MCHS spirit team waving pink pom-poms as part of the night, Principal Erika Miller said she was pleased with the amount of enthusiasm students showed.

“I love that they are supporting a cause like this,” she said.
