The body of a man who went missing in December has been found, according to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reported Tuesday via CrimeWatch.net that a positive identification has been made confirming that the body of 70-year-old Thomas Ray Velasquez of Craig was found after a months-long search.

The sheriff’s office reported that a family member discovered Velasquez’s body during a self-initiated search of an area near his home on Moffat County Road 53 — the same location where a Polaris Ranger associated with Velasquez was found this January.

According to previous reports, Velasquez was last seen near his residence on Dec. 18 and was reported missing Jan. 6. A ground and aerial search was conducted in the area where the Polaris Ranger was found without success.

However, previous search efforts were hampered by the snow, as the sheriff’s office reported Velasquez’s body was still partially covered by snow when it was found and had been completely covered just days prior to the discovery.

Authorities do not suspect foul play at this time.
