MCSD Whiteboard: A welcome to students and to all

MCSD Whiteboard

It has been such a joy for Moffat County educators to welcome students back into the buildings this week.

It reminded members of the district, yet again, of the critical role the schools play in this community’s present and future. Moffat County School District strives to be the central pillar of Craig and Moffat County’s bridge to the next phase of the history of this place. Everything starts here.

And that underlines the importance of community investment and involvement in the school district. Whether the school district succeeds or fails in its mission, it will be a huge part of the reason for whatever happens next in this place we all call home. In order for that to be success, the district needs the whole community to be a part of the process.

There are a ton of ways your voice can become part of the process in the Moffat County School District. As you lend your voice, your energy and your investment to this district, you shape the future of Moffat County. Here are several ways you can get involved:

● Run for school board! Nomination petitions are available now at the school district office at 600 Texas Ave. in Craig. Four seats are open this cycle. More information can be found at moffatsd.org on the Board of Education page (District Info tab > Community > Board of Education).

● Join the District Accountability Committee. The District Accountability Committee is a committee that has specific responsibilities throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to: student achievement and review of improvement plans; financial recommendations; and/or recommendations of appropriation of resources. As our community sees an economic pivot, it is imperative that the school district aligns with the needs of the community. From community partnerships and workforce development to adding resources to our community, it is important to have all voices and stakeholders at the forefront of these meetings as we build for the future. Find more information about the District Accountability Committee at moffatsd.org on the DAC page (District Info tab > Community > District Accountability Committee).

● If you have elementary school-enrolled children, join your school’s Parent Advisory Council. Talk to your child’s teacher or your school secretary or principal to learn about when your PAC meets and how you can join.

● Attend a school board meeting and register for public comment. The school board usually meets once a month on the fourth Monday of the month, though that date can vary. Check the calendar posted on the Board of Education page at moffatsd.org. Zoom attendance is an option if you cannot attend in person. The link to the Zoom is also found on the BOE website.

● Volunteer at school. There are lots of opportunities to pitch in and help with serving the wonderful kids in our schools. Talk to a teacher, secretary or principal to learn about how you might be able to participate. A background check is required for all school volunteers in order to ensure the protection of our students and staff.

We hope you’ll lend your voice to the process and your hands to the work of educating the great children of Moffat County. We need you, and we want to hear from you. Welcome back to school, Moffat County.
