Elections for mayor and a number of city council positions are coming up this November, and prospective candidates are encouraged to begin their campaigns now. The first step in the process is completing a candidate nomination petition packet, available for pick up from the City Clerk’s Office located upstairs at Craig City Hall.

In order to be eligible to run for the positions, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 25 years old, be registered to vote and have resided within Craig city limits for at least one year immediately prior to the election.

There are four city councilmember positions available in addition to the open mayor position. The term for council members is four years and the term for mayor is two years. Council members receive a $200 monthly stipend while the mayor receives a $300 monthly stipend. All elected council members and the mayor are expected to attend the two monthly City Council meetings, in addition to other respective duties.

Applicants will need to complete enclosed paperwork in the petition packet, including a Circulator Affidavit and Acceptance of Nomination. They must gather at least 25 signatures for their petition. Signers to the petition must live within Craig city limits, be registered voters and must include a physical address that matches their address on file with Voter Registration. Signatures not meeting criteria will be invalidated.

Completed packets are due back to the Clerk’s Office by Aug. 28. For questions or additional information, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (970) 826-2008 or (970) 826-2010.
