Letter: Kathy Oberwitte
Grateful for recall effort
Citizens of Moffat, Routt and Grand counties:
Words cannot express my gratitude to the volunteers who chose to be circulators during our recall campaign.
These individuals gave a heartfelt effort, gave up their personal time, family time all to stand together in unity for the committee and for the people.
Not all of you agreed with our effort, but one must remember what our founding fathers of 1787 provided to us and that is our rights. Part of the first amendment includes: right to petition is the freedom of individuals (and sometimes groups and corporations) to petition their government for a correction or repair of some form of injustice without fear of punishment for the same.
The committee will not be doing another recall effort, as reported, on Ms. Roesink as I am happy with the outcome regardless of the numbers. The awareness level has been raised and 3,000 plus people will hopefully be watching and listening more closely. We do have a serious problem with felonies, including but not limited to illegal drugs, which I believe has been brought closer to the surface. The information that the public is receiving is only the tip of an iceberg.
Ms. Roesink not choosing to run for re-election in 2008 will allow more time for potential candidates to come forward with their credentials and campaigns. The choice will be determined by the people in the November election.
An observation that all circulators made was the amount of people that were not registered, were afraid to become involved or were not educated on the topics.
In light of our experience and the lack of voters in the recent City Council election, I encourage you to protect our rights of, “We the People,” get out there and register and most importantly, go vote.
Our country is depending on you.
Sincerely,
Kathy Oberwitte
