— The Steamboat Institute announced Thursday that former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina will deliver the keynote dinner address at the organization’s Eighth annual Freedom Conference & Festival in Steamboat Springs this August.

“We’re very excited to have Fiorina here,” Steamboat Institute Chairman and CEO Jennifer Schubert-Akin said.

Schubert-Akin said she admires Fiorina’s life story and attitude.

Fiorina worked her way through college as a receptionist at a hair salon and was then a secretary at a real estate firm. In 1999, she became the first woman to serve as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, one of the largest companies in the U.S.

“That’s one of those only-in-America stories that you have to love,” Schubert-Akin said.

Fiorina became involved in politics and was a Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential election. After suspending her campaign, she was Ted Cruz’s pick for vice president for about a week. Cruz then dropped out of the race.

The Freedom Conference is Aug. 26 and 27. Most events will be held at the Steamboat Grand, and Fiorina will deliver the keynote address at the Thunderhead building.

Other speakers for the two-day event include: Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Nebraska; Stephen Moore, with the Heritage Foundation; Yaron Brook, with the Ayn Rand Institute; Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn; Michael Ledeen, with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies; Mary Kissel with the Wall Street Journal editorial board; and Charlie Kirk with Turning Point USA.

The Freedom Conference sells out every year, and the early registration deadline is June 30.

“We’re encouraging people to register now,” Schubert-Akin said. “We’re well on our way to another sellout.”

Tickets start at $50.

“We welcome everyone,” Schubert-Akin said. “It doesn’t matter what their political ideologies are.”
