Moffat County School District’s Early Childhood Center preschool will be closed Jan. 25 due to a gastrointestinal virus outbreak.

In an email sent to parents on Jan. 24, the preschool alerted parents to an outbreak in one of its eight classrooms.

Students in the affected classroom were sent home early on Wednesday while students in the seven unaffected classrooms completed the school day as normal, according to the email.

The closure will allow the preschool to undergo cleaning and sanitizing procedures recommended by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

All other schools in the district will continue with classes as normal on Jan. 25 as the district continues to monitor the situation.

Further communications will be shared by the district if necessitated by any changes.

The preschool will resume classes as normal on Jan 29.

The district asks that any Moffat County student be kept home until they have been symptom-free for 72-hours if they experience any of the following: low grade fever, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, headache or body aches.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to the district nurse at myranda.lyons@moffatsd.org or 970-824-6272.
