With an undefeated year for one of their squads and two championships to Bulldog name, Craig Middle School boys basketball cleaned up during the past weekend.

CMS seventh- and eighth-grade hoops teams each won a district title during the weekend, with the CMS eighth-grade A-Team going completely unbeaten this season.

Bulldogs had a bye round to start the district tourney Saturday in Steamboat Springs, and they promptly moved into the finals with a 43-12 win over Hayden. The final game of the year saw them defeat their Steamboat hosts 39-28.

The eighth-grade B group fought hard across three games, starting with wins over West Grand (43-11) and Meeker (36-31) before falling to the Sailors 45-12 to finish second.

Seventh-graders’ district rounds were Dec. 6 in Rangely, with the first-tier Bulldogs beating Hayden 33-9 and Meeker 31-28 to gain the championship.

“We played great defense the entire game and that was what won it for us,” coach Sam Langel said.

The seventh-grade B-Team finished as the runners-up in their brackets, 30-25 over Hayden before a 39-27 loss to Meeker.
