Local resident Bill Sawer wants the upcoming Midwinter Classic Soccer Tournament to fill the void between fall and spring.

“I wanted something in the middle of winter, when everybody is tired of the snow, but they still can’t get outside,” he said.

The one-day tournament is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8, and it will be inside the Boys & Girls Club of Craig gym, 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.

The event is open to boys and girls. Teams will be organized into three age divisions: one for players ages 10 and younger, another for ages 11 to 14 and a third for ages 15 to 18.

Sawer said some teams will be asked to mix age groups later in the afternoon.

Players must bring their own flat tennis shoes and shin guards. Registration is $5 for each five-player team, but individuals also are encouraged to attend and pay $1.

Youth soccer season begins in mid-March

Craig Youth Soccer is taking registration for the spring season. Registration is open to anyone ages 8 and older. The season runs from mid-March through the first week of June.

Registration will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.

Six-session health class begins in February

A new class starting next month is designed to “provide strategies for managing the challenges of chronic health conditions,” according to a news release.

The “Healthier Living with Chronic Conditions” class is a six-session workshop that will take place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday at the American Legion post, 1055 Moffat County Road 7. Classes begin Feb. 4 and run through March 11.
