County seeks contractor for fire role
The county’s fire coordinator position will go to a private contractor, the Moffat County commissioners decided Monday.
“We had strong candidates, but none with enough fire management experience,” said Jeff Comstock, director of natural resources for Moffat County.
Despite having advertised the position throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, only local applicants applied, said Lynnette7 Running, Human Resources director. None were qualified for the position, she added.
Comstock said that by hiring a private contractor, the county would find someone with expertise in fire management, but a local coordinator might be more readily available at odd hours of the day or night.
The commissioners decided that the benefit of fire management experience outweighed a potential sacrifice in availability. They voted unanimously to publish a request for proposals to find a private contractor.
