Chief presents monthly police report to council
Craig Press
The Craig Police Department gave its monthly report to the City Council on July 11, highlighting an increase in calls for service and a return to a full staff.
In a breakdown of the report, Chief Michael Cochran outlined a 500% increase in calls of service, up from 13 to 78, as an officer returned from medical leave in May. The statistic is a combination of animal complaints, parking and monthly van inspections. In addition, there was a 55% increase in speeding citations with a total of 235 traffic stops across the month. There was a 7% decrease in the number of incident reports.
The department was also back to a full staff after the graduation of two cadets from the Flat Rock Regional Training Center on June 2. There was an additional hire of a seasonal Community Services Officer, filling one of two available positions. As part of his duties, the new officer is working with Parks and Recreation as well as working at Elkhead Reservoir, where the waste and wastewater processing plant is located.
There were also several training programs and classes held by the department, in addition to working to clean up various areas and ensure that the public landscaping is taken care of.
