Lariat Liquors will be celebrating three things Saturday: the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, a new owner and a new name.

The store, seller of spirits of all kinds, has officially changed its name to Lariat Lee Liquors. The new-ish name combines the original moniker with that of its new owner, Lori Matuska, whose middle name is Lee.

Matuska bought the business from previous owners Mike and Soni Vice in mid-April.

She will keep the name mostly the same in honor of late Craig resident Carol Jacobson, a friend of Soni Vice, who helped create the Lariat Liquors name.

Employee Christy Raymond, who worked for the Vices, said the customer base has been strong since Matuska took over.

“I really think this place is going to skyrocket,” she said.

The store, located at 391 Lincoln St., will host a grand opening event from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday. It will include a fire sale, door prizes and free food catered by the Tin Cup Grill.

Trailer sales retailer moves store location

Anyone looking for a heavy-duty hauling mechanism needs to look no further.

James S. Simos Sales has relocated from its previous address at 464 Stout St., to a new building at 396 School St.

The business has been in its new location for about a week. The new building has housed a variety of businesses in previous years, including Challenger Motor Sports LLC, Liquid Flesh Tattoo and the lingerie shop Gloria’s Intimates.

Simos said the new location will serve the business well.

“It’s a little better location than the old place, and it’s a little bigger,” he said. “With any of the businesses I own, I like to fix it up and keep it nice. I’ve already leased the old building to Roto Rooter.”

Simos also owned Cashway Distributors for 15 years before retiring in 2006. With his self-named business, he provides quality trailers, flatbeds and tractor equipment to Northwest Colorado residents.

“We’ve had a lot of good response here so far,” he said.
