Briefs for August 1, 2011: Culture Night set for tonight
The Craig branch of Moffat County Libraries, 570 Green St., will host Culture Night from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today.
This month’s featured artists are The Gourd Girls, who will demonstrate the process of creating gourd art.

Newspaper project deadline extended
The deadline for entries in the Moffat County Quality of Life Project has been extended to Friday.
The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership, Moffat County Tourism Association, Craig Chamber of Commerce and the Craig Daily Press are offering cash prizes for the best entries in the contest.
The project seeks community members to submit written explanations, of no more than 500 words, or visual representations of why they love living in Moffat County.
All entries may be used for future promotions of Moffat County.
Entries will be judged by a panel of longtime Moffat County residents.
The first-place artwork and written work will each win $250. Second place overall wins $100, and third place overall wins $50.
In addition, for entrants ages 12 and younger, first place wins a $100 savings bond, second wins a $75 savings bond and third wins a $50 savings bond.
Submit entries online at http://www.craigdailypress.com/qualityoflife or by mailing a completed form with submissions to Craig Daily Press, Attn: Quality of Life Project, P.O. Box 5, Craig, CO 81626.

Photos with cartoon stars offered
Bob Johnson and the State Farm insurance agency, 690 W. Victory Way, invite youths to have their photos taken with cardboard cutouts of cartoon characters Mater and Lightning McQueen.
Photos are available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and are free.
