Last year’s silent auction for tickets to the annual Craig Kiwanis Club play raised $2,000, which paid for an additional scholarship for a graduating Moffat County High School senior.

The silent auction, a new wrinkle last year for the Kiwanis Club, was successful enough that it’s making a return this year.

“All of that money was dedicated to our scholarship fund, and we were able to give one more scholarship here in Moffat County,” Kiwanis Club member Jeff Corriveau said.

He added, “This is a great opportunity for someone to get a table.”

This year’s silent auction is Friday.

Bidding begins at 9 a.m. at Craig Ford, 801 W. Victory Way, and ends at 6 p.m.

Up for grabs are two 12-person tables – one for the Friday, March 6 play performance, and the other for the Saturday, March 7 performance – at any spot in the house the winning bidders prefer.

“The highest bid at 6 gets the” tables, Corriveau said, “and they have their pick of whatever table they want.”

Last year, the overall winning bid was $1,100, and the second winner was for $900.

Friday bidders can submit as many bid entries as they like, Corriveau said.

“If you want to be the successful bidder, you just keep coming back,” he said.

The 63rd annual Kiwanis Club play will be hosted at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

Tickets – $15 each or $180 for a table – go on sale at 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, 419 E. Victory Way, and they are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is a local tradition for playgoers to camp out, sometimes days before, the tickets go on sale to get the best seats for the highly popular play, which has routinely sold out throughout the years.

“It’s a ritual that has its own life,” Corriveau said. He added, “It’s not uncommon to have both performances sold out the (first) night of ticket sales.”

All of the proceeds raised through the Kiwanis Club play are funneled back into the local community through either student scholarships, or community-based programs.
