Cecilia Mary Bergmann

Cecilia Mary Bergmann, 94, of Galena Illinois, was born March 3, 1922 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, daughter of the late Peter and Guadalupe (Nee Valdez) Rodgers and passed away February 3, 2016. Cecilia and family moved from Mexico to Chicago, Illinois in 1925, when she was three years old. She was eleven when her father died. As the oldest of four children, she became the primary communicator for her Spanish¬speaking mother and family. This level of responsibility at such an early age, helped shape Cecilia’s strong, determined, but loving personality. Upon graduation from high school she attended junior college and received an Associates Degree; then pursued a career in advertising both as a layout artist and copywriter. For over three decades she worked for Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. On August 28, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, she married Bernard “Bud” Edward Bergmann. They lived in Cicero, Illinois until 1956 when they moved into the house Bud designed and built in Deerfield, Illinois. It was there that they raised their family of five children. Shortly after retirement, in 1983, Cecilia and Bud moved to Craig, CO, where they became very involved in both the community and St. Michaels Church. Cecilia was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and a school volunteer. She loved her crafts, drawing and painting. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and helping others. Cecilia lived her final years in Galena, IL, where after a full rewarding life, she passed away peacefully on February 3, 2016. Cecilia is survived by sons Peter (Deb) Bergmann of Loveland CO, and Mike (Sally) Bergmann of Galena IL; daughters Mary Bergmann of Arvada CO, and Carol (Ralph) Schroeder, of The Woodlands, TX; and grandchildren Chris (Angela) Bergmann, Matt Bergmann, Rob (Amanda) Bermann, Lauren (Joseph) Padon, Ryan (Colby) Mathes, Scott Schroeder, Grant (Courtney) Schroeder; and great-grandchildren Aubrey, Kendall, Penelope, Hazel Bergmann; Macy Padon and Eugene Mathes. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard Bergmann, daughter Kathy Bergmann, brother Bud Rodgers, and sisters Olivia Garces and Mickey Gloeckle. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Craig Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Horizons in care of Grant Mortuary.
