Patsy Bonifield Abel
April 24, 2015
Patsy Bonifield Abel was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on August 1, 1934 to Clyde Amos and Eva Dare Wheeler. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 21, 2015 at her home in Stagecoach, Colorado after a lengthy hospital stay in Denver. Pat is survived by her husband Joe, sons Shannon Bonifield (Debbie) of Tulsa, OK and Jay Abel of Denver, CO; daughters Kelley Lichtenberg (Randy) and Kimberly Cannedy (John) of Grand Junction, CO; brother Dale Wheeler (Carol) of Colorado Springs, CO; eighteen grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Patsy was adored by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a sister.
Pat will be best remembered by friends for her love of her garden, her wild birds, nature, and her duplicate bridge group. She befriended all of God's creatures, flora and fauna, and nurtured the most beautiful flowers to blossom out of a rocky hillside. Her family acknowledges all of that, but would first mention her boundless love of others and courageous battle with cancer over the years. A family member recently gave Pat a wall hanging which accurately and beautifully said of her, "She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future".
Prior to retiring, Pat's career included various administrative positions, several years as part of the management group at Stagecoach and concluded by working with her husband Joe at Abel Real Estate for many years. Pat and Joe would have celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary on May 1st.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00p.m. at Yampa Valley Funeral Home of Steamboat with a graveside service to follow at a later date in Grand Junction, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Visiting Nurses Association of Steamboat Springs, a group that was both invaluable and loved by Patsy, or to a charity of your choice.
