April 12, 1929 – March 26, 2021

June Collins passed away at the age of 91. June was born April 12, 1929 in Craig, Colorado to John S. Irick and Ina L. Conway Irick. Her parents, brother Conway, grandmother Ophelia Conway, and aunts and uncles came from Oklahoma and homesteaded on Upper Fortification, Black Mountain. She then moved to Craig where her dad opened Irick’s Shoe and Saddle Shop on her 1st birthday, in 1930. Her father suddenly passed away when she was 14 and mother ran the family business until her brother was discharged from the Army, during World War II. Her mother later married Ray Lyons, a Breeze Basin rancher. June graduated from Moffat County High School in 1947 and then attended Barnes Business School in Denver, Colorado. She married Joseph L. Collins on October 9, 1947 in Craig. They lived in Rangely, CO for 4 years, and their daughter, Linda Sue, was born there on March 17, 1949. They moved back to Craig in 1951 and their son, Gary Dale, was born on January 1, 1953. June and her family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and lived there for 8 years. They lived in Northern California for a year and a half and then moved back to Cheyenne where Linda graduated from high school and Gary 8th grade. Toledo, Ohio was their next home, where Gary graduated from high school. June’s husband, Joe, was a pipefitter by trade and worked on missile sites, refineries, and power houses. June and her family loved moving, seeing different states, meeting new friends and going to wonderful churches. She was not only a housewife and a mother, but also a Cub Scout Den Mother, Assistant Girl Scout Leader, a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher and Joy Clubs Leader for many years. When her children were grown, June worked at Sears in Toledo, Ohio and the Sewing Chalet in Craig. Her family moved to Colorado Springs for a year and a half before Joe’s retirement. They moved back to Craig in 1976 and built their forever home. June and Joe enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and sports, especially football and the Broncos. June has two special granddaughters, Jessica Dodd and Jodi Najera. Jessica lives in Grand Junction and Jodi and her husband, Junior, live in Colorado Springs, CO.

June was blessed with 5 beloved great grandchildren: Blake (Ashley), Bethanie (Jay), Jordan (Harley), Landen (Cassidy), and Spencer Najera. She was also blessed with 8 great-great grandchildren: Miles, Rylee, Luke, Haylee, Mia Grace, Aliyah, Logan and Bailey June. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, beloved husband of 50 years, brother Conway, and loving daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Garry Winslow. June is survived by her loving and caring son, 2 granddaughters, grandson-in-law, 5 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Ruby Irick, nieces Connie and Sherry, and great nephews CJ and Jeff. June came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a teenager and was blessed her whole life!

A celebration of life will be held on April 1, 2021 at 10:00 am, at Yampa Valley Baptist Church.
