Obituary: Ben Jones

Thomas “Ben” Jones died Sunday, December 27th at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction. Ben was born November 4th, 1948 in Empire, Oregon to Jewell and Joyce Jones. After graduating from high school in Price, Utah, Ben enlisted with the United States Marine Corp, proudly serving in the Vietnam war, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1969.

Ben married Katherine Koran in 1971 and together they moved to Craig in 1975 to work in the oil industry. Ben worked at Colowyo for 17 years before starting his own landscaping company, serving many communities in NW Colorado. Ben enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting (especially elk and spring turkey).

Ben is survived by his son Tom (Amber) and daughter Theresa, grandchildren Sage (Stephanie) and Macie Schrimsher, Olivia and Wesley Jones, great grandchildren Katie and Kimmy and a community of close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and his eldest son, Derrick.

The family will plan a memorial service for Ben this summer with the assistance of the local VFW.
