YampaCare Family Medicine to replace Kinder Family Clinic
Craig — Yampa Valley Medical Center announced Monday that it will rebrand and lease Kinder Family Clinic, a deal that Dr. Pamela Kinder has worked on for months.
The Kinder practice at 595 Russell St. will become YampaCare Family Medicine, adding a second Yampa Valley Medical Center business to Craig.
The medical center also operates a specialty clinic at Yampa Works at 651 Yampa Ave.
“The idea is that one building will house the primary care and one building will house the specialists,” Kinder said.
Kinder Family Clinic will end its primary care services Thursday. Dr. Shannon Becker will open YampaCare Family Medicine in place of Kinder Family Clinic on Friday.
Kinder will continue practicing neurology in Craig one day per week once the transition is complete.
“I’ll be trying to go back to my roots,” she said.
YampaCare Family Medicine is a collaboration between Yampa Valley Medical Center and Yampa Valley Medical Associates of Steamboat Springs, according to a press release from the medical center.
Kinder and her husband, Dr. Dennis Kinder, who used to work at The Memorial Hospital, co-own the Kinder Family Care building with Pamela Kinder’s parents.
Dennis Kinder moved to Parker earlier in the year to serve as an associate professor for Rocky Vista University, supervising the Internal Medicine Resident’s Clinic, after he opted not to renew his contract with TMH.
The Kinders sold their home last year, and Pamela Kinder commutes from the metro area to Northwest Colorado every Sunday night, only to return to Parker on Wednesday evening after she cares for patients in Craig and Steamboat, she said.
“We’re trying to make it as seamless as possible,” she said, noting that she stays with friends while in the Yampa Valley.
Kinder also said that she gave TMH ample opportunity to take over her practice.
“I reached out to the board” on numerous occasions, she said. “This was never our plan. Our plan was to be here.”
TMH Chief of Marketing and Business Development Jennifer Riley confirmed that Kinder did reach out to the board.
“She did talk to the board and let them know that she wanted to sell her practice, and sell her building. The board had obvious concerns about buying a practice, we have a practice,” Riley said. “She was never clear with the board what it was she was looking for.”
TMH has its own primary care clinic located at 785 Russell St., roughly block away from the Kinder clinic. Dr. John Hamilton, Cindy Porter, Neilene Folks and two pediatricians, Kristie Yarmer and Kelly Follett, along with other specialty care doctors work at the TMH clinic.
Additionally, Yampa Valley Medical Center assumed operational management of a medical clinic in Baggs, Wyoming, in April. It used to be a satellite office of Kinder Family Clinic. The Baggs office now goes by Little Snake River Valley Clinic.
