Yampa Valley Partners asks for more funds

Christina M. Currie

Craig City Council members today will consider whether to increase funding of Yampa Valley Partners by $2,500.

Yampa Valley Partners, an alliance to improve cooperation between Moffat and Routt counties, will ask the council to increase its yearly funding to $10,000 from $7,500.

City Council will:

• Consider renewal of the tavern liquor license for the OP Bar & Grill.

• Consider renewal of the retail liquor store license for Dark Horse Discount Liquor.

• Consider approval of a special events permit for the Boys & Girls Club annual Cowboy Christmas from 4 p.m. to midnight Dec. 3.

When the City Council partnered with the county several years ago to fund the Human Resource Council, city officials thought that would be the end of funding requests from community organizations.

It wasn’t.

The Human Resource Council serves as a clearinghouse for funding requests for most area non-profit organizations. But some organizations, including Yampa Valley Partners, get separate consideration and an annual appropriation from the city.

Yampa Valley Partners is an alliance between Moffat and Routt counties to support the development of communities by fostering cooperation.

The group has developed the Community Indicators Project, a summary of demographic data and analysis and what it means to Northwest Colorado communities and their economy.

Yampa Valley Partners also organizes a yearly regional leadership summit to identify issues and needs and formulate action plans.

The group is working to expand its funding base, which is one reason the city is being asked to increase its contribution, said Audrey Danner, director of Yampa Valley Partners.

“We provide a lot of products,” Danner said.

Yampa Valley Partners is currently compiling the results of a survey, completed in an attempt to gauge the social and economic influence service agencies have on the community.

A Craig City Council member or city staff member is represented on the Yampa Valley Partners board of directors, which is what allows the city to contribute directly.

The Craig City Council discussed the funding increase request at its budget workshop but asked that Danner come before them to discuss the need for the money.

The council will consider the increase at its regular meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers of Craig City Hall.

The meeting will be preceded by a joint city/county meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. Agenda items include a telecommunication presentation, a report on the Oct. 20 regional leadership summit, update on the Grand, Routt and Moffat County Narcotics Enforcement Team and discussion about the Craig/Moffat County Airport.
