The place for sporting types to be in Moffat County this summer is at the Yampa Valley Golf Course.

The course will host happenings throughout the warm months, with events open to golfers of all skill levels, as well as some reserved for those serious about their handicap.

YVGC will begin hosting regular events starting this week, with the Dirthog Scramble the first of many tournaments coming this season.

The Dirthog begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with most events also taking place over the weekend, whether during one day or several. Agencies like Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, The Memorial Hospital Foundation, Colowyo, Tri-State Generation & Transmission and Bear River Young Life will host their own events, while traditions like the Cottonwood Classic, Ladies Silver Bullet Classic and the Yampa Cup — held in both Craig and Steamboat Springs — will be significant draws.

The golf season will end with the Wakonda Cup/Fore Fat Cor memorial tournament in late September.

Also starting this week, YVGC will continue its Thank God It’s Friday series, held at 5:30 p.m. Fridays as a way to unwind after the workweek. Golfers can dress in costume based on themes like pirates, cowboys, Father’s Day and hippies, among others, on a biweekly basis. Many of these will also include meal options.

The series will finish with a Sunday morning football-centric get-together complete with lunch Sept. 27.
