Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig opens for season

Seth Linton, of Craig, follows his approach shot on the sixth hole at Yampa Valley Golf Course on Sunday. The back nine holes opened to walkers Friday afternoon at the course, while the full 18 then opened Saturday. Head Golf Pro David Hardison said the course likely would be open for carts beginning this week.

— The Yampa Valley Golf course in Craig has opened for the season a bit earlier than expected thanks to a string of warm days, new pro David Hardison said Saturday morning.

Hardison confirmed Saturday that the course had opened for play Friday. He said the course originally had been slated to open for the season Monday, but golf course officials decided to let local players onto the fairways and greens Friday.

“It’s open for walking only right now,” Hardison said Saturday. “We are not allowing carts on the course at this time.”

He said there still are patches of snow on the course, and golfers should expect early-season conditions and play using winter rules. Golfers will pay $20 to play 18 holes through Sunday. On April 1, the price for nonresidents to play will be $30 for 9 holes and $42 for 18 holes.
