The Yampa River Ranch Rodeo will kick off this weekend, with Friday and Saturday jam-packed with cowboy activities.

The first round of the Iron Man Ranch Bronc Riding circuit starts things off Friday night, as competitors take to the ring, the best of the best taking quintuple points in the Western States Ranch Rodeo Association’s tour standings, $5,500 at stake in the event, which also continues Saturday evening.

The ranch rodeo portion of the proceedings begain at 10 a.m. Saturday will feature WSRRA sanctioned happenings like big loop team roping, loading and tying, rustler’s relay and the women’s steer stopping. Events will be a qualifier for the season finals of WSRRA.

As well as everything going on in the arena across two days, each night will culminate in musical performances by Dust in My Coffee and Matt Robertson.

Local organizer Kyler Scott said rodeo personalities representing 12 different states and Canada will be competing hard throughout the weekend and he hopes the stands will be packed with local fans of the sport among the many out-of-towners.

“We’re hoping to see 300, 400 people there,” he said. “We’re having 150 contestants alone, so we’re hoping for a big crowd.”

Tickets for individual events are $5 apiece at the gate for bronc riding, the rodeo or the concerts, or a weekend pass for a family of four is available at Murdoch’s for $20.

“A thank-you goes to all of our sponsors and the support we’ve gotten from the community,” Scott said
