William F. Tilford

1923-2002

William F. Tilford died April 23, 2002, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. He was 78.

Tilford was born on June 10, 1923, in Meeker, Colo., to James and Frances (Carey) Tilford. He spent most of his childhood in and around the Pieance Creek area.

On Oct. 24, 1942, he married Earlene Wolaver in Craig. He joined the U.S. Army in June of 1943 and served until September of 1945. he served in the South Pacific and was wounded at Luzon in the Philippines.

He and Earlene made their home in Grand Junction, Naturita and Craig.

Tilford worked for Colorado Ute Power Plant for 25 years. He was an outdoorsman, loved fishing, camping, hunting and hiking through the mountains.

Tilford is survived by his wife, Earlene; daughter, Patty (Ed) Relaford of Craig; son, James (Karla) of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Carla Ellis, Carlene Sanders, Danielle Tilford, John, Bruce and Sam Tilford and Eddie Relaford Jr.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vera; brother, James; and half-brother, Amos Tanksley.

Services were April 27, 2002, at Craig Cemetery with Kenneth Forshee officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were John Tilford, Bruce Tilford, Josh Wilde, Oscar Tilford, Eddie Relaford Jr., Sam Tilford, Jake Ellis and Tyler Tilford-Hamlin.

Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery
