Who’s in the Schools:

Shirley Stehle

What is your job title: Custodian

Number of years in profession: 5

How did you get into this profession? I started subbing for custodians when they were gone. Then I got hired for a part-time position at Craig Middle School, and it worked into full-time.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Keeping the trash picked up. After games is the worst.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing how good everything looks when it is clean. The teachers compliment you when you do a good job for them.

What is a teaching tool or method that is unique to you? I am very picky about the way I clean and the way my area gets cleaned at work.

Briefly describe your most heartwarming teaching/student experience: Finding something for a student that they lost.

What are your favorite activities when you’re not at school? I love to read, stamp cards, play poker, camp and fish. I would like to have more time to make quilts.

What is the one thing about your profession that you wish the public at large understood? I think anyone who has cleaned up after other people learns to pick up better after themselves, like when you go to the movies or a football game.

What do you like most about Craig Middle School? I love the teachers and staff I work with.
