Taking deep breaths can help your physical and mental health on a number of levels. Various experts have touted deep breathing as a way to stay healthy and fit. It's also a great way to keep your stress levels low.
According to the American Institute of Stress, by practicing deep breathing it can decrease your metabolism, help your heart beat slower, relaxes your muscles and decreases your blood pressure.
"Abdominal breathing for 20 to 30 minutes each day will reduce anxiety and reduce stress. Deep breathing increases the supply of oxygen to your brain and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes a state of calmness," according to an AIS blog.
