Weekend Roundup: The dog days of late summer

It’s not quite summer anymore, yet it’s also far from fall as far as the weather is concerned, and there’s plenty to do this weekend in Northwest Colorado.

The Moffat County High School volleyball teams will host the Cedaredge Bruins Friday afternoon with games for C-Team, JV and varsity. Come cheer on the Lady Bulldogs for a strong rally to spike the competition!
When: C-Team plays at 4 p.m., JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6 p.m. Friday

The sounds of summer

On Friday and Saturday, JW Snack’s brings in the band Movers & Shakers for the final entry in the Summer Concert Series. The show takes place on the eatery’s patio area.
When: 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday

A bunch of yahoos

The Yahoo Ball Drop and Golf Tournament starts the day Saturday morning as hundreds of golf balls are dropped at Yampa Valley Golf Course with huge prizes at stake, including Denver Broncos tickets, gift certificates for local businesses, a golf package, an iPad, a barbecue grill and a grand prize of $1,000 in a combination of cash and Spree Bucks.
The tournament follows, though signups are limited to 60 teams.
Proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Club and Craig Kiwanis Club.
When: Ball drop at 8 a.m. Saturday, tourney follows

Cost: Ball drop $10 for one white ball, $50 for five white and one red, or $100 for one dozen white and three red; tournament registration $130 per team or $65 per player

Feeling sheepish

The regional favorite Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials are off and running this week, and plenty more activities are in store this weekend as the contest concludes Sunday. Besides the sheepdog trials themselves — which test the capabilities of herding dogs and handlers from across the world — the event includes art shows, quilting displays, food and crafts vendors, dog demonstrations and evening events downtown such as Friday’s Art & Wine Meeker Style and Saturday’s Jammin’ Lamb Festival, as well as many other happenings.

Cost: One-day passes $15 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older and children ages 8 to 16; additional packages available online
