Weekend Roundup: Tasty times, circus excitement

Finely crafted confections, classic cinemas and exotic animals are on display this weekend in Northwest Colorado.
Homemade goodness
The Downtown Craig Farmers Market takes place each Friday afternoon at Alice Pleasant Park.
The gathering is full of local vendors selling homegrown produce, homemade delicacies, specialty artisan crafts and other unique goods.
Organizers are also taking applications for additional booths.
A special drum circle presentation will take place at 3 p.m. each week, as well, and all are welcome to join.
When: Noon to 6 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 26

Pie in the sky
Downtown Business Association hosts its First Friday event made for those with a sweet tooth.
A pie-baking contest is open to all who specialize in pastry with prizes at stake. Home-baked entries — required to be in disposable dishes — will compete for the best of the best in cream, custard, fruit and cheesecake categories.
The pie-eating contest follows for all ages and also features prizes.

The sounds of summer
The summer concert series for JW Snack's continues with Matt Holiday and Friends, which will perform on the patio area both Friday and Saturday.
When: 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday

Silver screen classic
As part of First Friday, Downtown Books will host a free movie night, with the Alfred Hitchcock film "The Lady Vanishes" screening on the wall of the Community Budget Center next to the bookstore.

Big top entertainment
Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will offer two shows Sunday with performances taking place at Wyman Living History Museum.
The circus features an array of clowns, animals trapeze artists and more.
Morning setup is open to the public to view and learn more about the history of the show.
Advance tickets are available at Craig Chamber of Commerce. Prices will rise at the door.
When: Setup at 9:30 a.m., shows at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday

Cost: Advance tickets $7 for ages 2 to 12 and seniors, $10 for adults
