The Labor Day weekend awaits Northwest Colorado residents, and between long stretches of kicking back there are many happenings in the area.
Colorado Northwestern Community College offers a free barbecue Friday afternoon at Elkhead Reservoir.
CNCC will provide a shuttle at 2 p.m. from the parking lot for anyone in need of transportation.

The Moffat County High School football program begins its season Friday night, hosting the Summit Tigers of Frisco.

A different kind of kickoff
Following the big game, Grand Futures Prevention Coalition and Bear River Young Life will host a kickball tournament as the first of its Fifth Quarter activities this school year.

The summer concert series for JW Snack’s continues with a double bill of country bands performing on the patio area Friday and Saturday.

Downtown Craig Famers Market sets up shop Saturday at Alice Pleasant Park for its final session of the summer.
Locally grown produce, baked goods and crafts are among the items available, and organizers will provide live music and specialty offers from surrounding businesses.

Colorado Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis will visit Northwest Colorado locations Sunday as part of meet-and-greet events throughout the state.
Polis will be at Meeker’s Meeker Cafe, Craig’s Woodbury Sports Complex and Steamboat Springs’ Steamboat Flyfisher to visit with residents and discuss his campaign.

Bird is the word
The seventh annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival runs though Sunday with activities celebrating the beloved sandhill cranes at locations in Steamboat Springs and Hayden.
Besides guided sunrise viewings of the birds, organizers will provide workshops, presentations and more for all ages.
