Welcome to the first installment of Weekend Roundup, a look at the activities available in Northwest Colorado each week Fridays through Sunday. The coming weekend has several happenings you won’t want to miss as part of the area’s summer fun continues.

The Memorial Hospital is celebrating a birthday party this weekend — actually, a lot of birthday parties.

TMH recently celebrated 10,000 babies born at its facility since 1950, and all people who started their life at the hospital and their families are invited for a community event Sunday at Loudy-Simpson Park.

Traditional birthday cake will be served, and a photo booth and prizes will also be available. The first 100 party guests will also receive a special goody bag.

Riding high

The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series continues its season each Friday and Saturday for the month to come. Besides viewing talented athletes from Steamboat and Craig and other areas in events like bull riding, team roping, steer wrestling bareback and saddle bronc riding, barrel races and more, spectators can enjoy amateur roping and a kids calf scramble, too.

This week includes a performance by bullfighter Troy Lerwill’s Wild Child act and music by local acts Trevor G. Potter and Jon Gibbs and Randy Kelley.

Music in the mountains

The Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series features a family act this weekend as East Coast group Robert Randolph and the Family Band visit the area. Consisting of noted guitarist Randolph — ranked by Rolling Stone on its list of the 100 greatest all-time players of the instrument — and several of his cousins, the show will include a mixture of rock, funk, gospel and blues.

The opening act will be Bill Smith, the show is guaranteed to go on, rain or shine, and as the name indicates, there is no admission charge.

The long-awaited return of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and company was a hit in theaters, and if you still haven’t seen it — or demand to see it again — head to Movies on the Mountain in Gondola Square in Steamboat.

Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets, but please leave light sabers at home.
