Weather Watch: Stormy week in store for Craig

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

— If you thought the end of March also would mean the end of dreary weather and the start of nonstop sunshine, then the joke’s on you this April Fools’ Day, as well as almost every other day in the immediate future.

The National Weather Service’s forecast for Craig this week shows a likelihood of precipitation each day from Monday through Thursday. A mixture of rain and snow is in store thanks to cold fronts that will affect western Colorado considerably.

“We’re in what we call a progressive spring-like pattern where storms are coming in from the Pacific regularly,” said NWS meteorologist Joe Ramey, of Grand Junction.

Ramey said Sunday afternoon that higher elevations were in a winter weather advisory because of slick roads and powerful winds.

Just as one front passes after Tuesday, a second will bring with it some wetness and wind expected to hit Craig on Wednesday night into Thursday.

But that still won’t be the end of it, Ramey said.

“You’ll have a break on Friday, then yet another Pacific front will influence the area next weekend with lots of uncertainty on how it will impact us,” he said.
