Weather Watch: Stormy scenarios in store for Craig this week

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

If your pet is afraid of thunder, don’t expect the coming days to be easy for either of you.

The National Weather Service predicts a good chance of storming for much of the early week.

Meteorologist Tom Renwick, with NWS’s Grand Junction office, said “a wave of disturbance” will be noticeable for a few days.

“We’re looking for some widespread showers and thunderstorms Monday and especially Tuesday,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of thunder and lightning, and the whole of Western Colorado is going to be getting dumped on.”

Temperatures will stay in the 80s as activity pounds Northwest Colorado Monday through Wednesday, with the commotion staying during both the days and nights, getting as low as the mid-40s after the sun’s departure.

Renwick said there is no approximation yet available of potential rainfall, but some areas of the state can anticipate flash flood warnings as a result of precipitation. Should such an emergency happen in Moffat County or elsewhere, NWS reminds motorists not to chance taking on fast-moving water currents.

“Turn around; don’t drown,” Renwick said.

It is likely the region’s activity will taper off and calm down by Thursday, he added.

“Thursday, Friday and Saturday will all be about the same, but it could be picking up across the area again by Sunday,” he said.
